To Brazil, with love is a collection of letters exchanged between journalists Jamil Chade, who lives in Geneva, and Juliana Monteiro, who lives in Rome. In this correspondence, the authors share everyday facts, stories and impressions from a period that begins in the post-vaccine summer in Europe and ends on the eve of the 2022 Brazilian elections. These letters reflect concerns, expectations and uncertainties in a historical moment of transition, in which societies are still processing the trauma of the pandemic, but seem tempted to reproduce or refine the same mechanisms that promote inequality between individuals, peoples and nations.
Looking at Brazil from Europe, Jamil and Juliana share, in addition to their foreignness, a sensitive view of the injustices and contradictions in society, a concern for the sociopolitical situation in Brazil and the fight against the indifference that keeps human beings on the periphery of rights.
Journalists call on readers to return to utopias and to collectively construct responses that account for a world driven by the speed of new technologies, often manipulated by new forms of communication.
To Brazil, with love is an invitation to fight. But also to delicacy, freedom and love.
Correspondence originally published in Revista Pessoa between September 2021 and July 2022.
